Each year, AMSA Global Health develops an annual plan in conjunction with our strategic direction, and celebrates and evaluates our progress via an annual report.
I am pleased to announce the publication of our 2020 Annual Report.
2020 was a tumultuous year, filled with masks, hand sanitiser and zoom. Whilst disheartened by the cancellation of our first Forum, we were ultimately able to adapt to our covid normal, continuing to reach students and run advocacy campaigns.
We responded to the Covid-19 Pandemic by launching a task force that summarised pandemic-related global health issues for our students, and explored challenges exacerbated by the crisis – like refugee rights, homelessness, and domestic and family violence.
Our advocacy projects converted their long-running campaigns to virtual alternatives – an online Palm Sunday Rally and #ClimateChangesHealth rally, a social media based healthy habits boot-camp competition, and a series of sexual health webinars.
We converted our forums to an online forum, and continued to prioritise volunteer well-being remotely.
Overall, in 2020, we continued to connect, inspire and empower Australian medical students to effect change towards global health equity. We involved over 90 volunteers, and engaged over 500 medical students in our online activities.
We are looking forward to continuing our extensive advocacy, engagement and education projects in 2021.
