What did you do after finishing medical school
A/A

What was your ‘big break’?
Before starting medical school, I undertook an internship at the UNAIDS New York office, this provided a foundation for my future global health work and provided the opportunity to gain hands-on global health experience

Where are you headed/what’s your dream job? Are you in it now?
Still figuring it out!

What did you study that has helped you (during or since medical school)?
I was a ‘non-science background’ medical student – and I think having done previous course work in social sciences allowed me to approach medicine from a broader perspective than the purely clinical approach many students employ.

Top tips for students interested in a similar global health pathway?
Many global health jobs require you to have training or skills in data analysis, programme management, monitoring and evaluation or educational experience in their area ie in health policy, economics — find what you’re interested in and build your skills through both traditional and non-traditional pathways. Get as many experiences as possible! Something that people don’t tell you is that a lot of work in global health is also dependent on who you know – so find a mentor or an advocate in your field!

When I’m not doing global health, you’ll find me…
