Current job title: General HMO – Monash Health
What are you doing now?
Neurosurgery at Monash Medical Centre. This rotation is part of a ‘General’ year. Otherwise i’m the Forum Convenor at the Global Ideas Forum, a member of the Global Shapers, an initiative of the World Economic Forum and a student of economics and development at the University of London
What was your ‘big break’?
Still holding out for one! I think the opportunity that has most shaped my trajectory over the past 5 years though was my internship at the World Health Organisation
Where are you headed/what’s your dream job? Are you in it now?
I don’t know, and i think if you asked me again in 5 years I’d say the same thing. I look at my education as adding to a portfolio of skills rather than funnelling me towards a vocation. My approach to my career is to take as many different opportunities in differing contexts to add to that portfolio.
What did you study that has helped you (during or since medical school)?
As mentioned above, I’m studying a Bachelor of Economics and Development through the University of London. Health as a sector has given me a unique lens and perspective on the world. Studying this course allows me to branch out and add layers to that perspective.
Top tips for students interested in a similar global health pathway?
You don’t have to make a choice between the red and blue pill. Explore your interests. Take your time. As with most things in life, when you find the right one, you’ll know it.
When I’m not doing global health, you’ll find me…
